Don't Tell Anyone

I don't know if anyone else has ever noticed, but there are many times that Jesus either heals somebody, does something miraculous, or tells the disciples something and then orders them not to tell anybody else. Then there are other times that Jesus does the same thing and then tells those people to go and proclaim what God has done for them. I have noticed this in 3-4 different passages in the first 10 chapters of Luke. Anybody else noticed this or have any insight on why Jesus might be "inconsistent" in what he says? It could be dependent upon the context of the situation.

Context dictates the reason why he tells certain ones to tell and certain others to keep quiet. Some audiences are Jewish, some are Gentile. More often than not, the Gentiles were allowed to tell others because it didn't interfere with a presupposed understanding of who the messiah was. Therefore, Jesus was consistant with his inconsistancies.

i've often wondered that myself. i don't know that its as simple as the previous comment made it sound...

ultimately it must have been a context thing... but i think only Jesus knows why... at times He even tells people not to tell, fully knowing that they will.

the best of which is the formerly blind man who is being questioned and finally just says "hey, look, all i know is i once was blind but now i see." :)

have a nice day
