Great Advice

I found an old email that I meant to pass along to others so thought I would do it this way. It was advice given by an attorney about how to save yourself when you have your wallet or purse stolen. 1) When ordering checks - omit 1st name and put just your first initial on the checks / don't use complete acct. # in the memo line when writing a check to a credit card co. / Put a work # instead of a home phone # 2) Take all the contents out of your wallet/purse and make copies of front and back for reference (helps you know the phone numbers to call and cancel) 3) File a police report in the jurisdiction where it was stolen 4) Call one of the 3 national credit bureaus (Equifax 800.525.6285) (Experian 888.397.3742) (Trans Union 800.680.7289) 5) Report the theft to the FTC 877.438.4338 www.consumer.gov/idtheft 6) Take all this info and place it in a safe place - fire safety box.
