I had no idea how much of an effect having a child made in tax deductions. Our refund this year is bigger than it ever has been which brings with it more choices of what to do with it. One of those options includes a tithe of the full amount. Do people usually tithe (give 10%) out of their refunds? What about tithing out of monetary gifts for birthdays and Christmas?
I'm curious to know your thoughts. Do you all tithe off your refund?

i'm not so into tithing, but here's my thought... if you tithe your net then this money hasn't already been tithed. if you tithe your gross then it already has.
but i do think that anyone who has a strong opinion on this (either way) must be wrong. they'd clearly be missing the point entirely.
I would agree that it depends on if you tithe your gross or your net. I fully believe that money is God's first and since He asks us to give of our first fruits, that it is important to give back what was originaly His.
Tithing is a hard topic for many people. It is hard to give money back when it is sometimes hard to come by. From my past experience anything that I have tithed, whether it by monetary or other means, always ends up coming back in other blessings. Tithing is one way of showing your faith.

First of all, I have no comprehension of what a tax refund is. When you are considered to be self employed (go figure how that works as a pastor) you pay on a quarterly basis so kiss the refund goodbye. Regarding the tithe, I don't agree with the net versus gross argument. Gross is what you earn and you always work off of what you earn whether it is for Uncle Sam or the Lord. I agree with the last post; what we have is not ours anyways, it belongs to God. And secondly, I have yet to see God not be true to his promises to provide when we give our firstfruits to him. As you know, we have tithed sinced the day we were married, some 31 plus years now, and we have yet to regret it. God has blessed our socks off (I'm not just talking in a financial way) and you have been a witness to that.

Me & Daniel still have to pay $20 into the state this year & this is the first time either one of us had to do this. This is because they did not take out enough state taxes from my pay.Yet if you want to tithe part of your tax refund money that is OK.
