Coaching Football and Making Decisions

This past fall I participated in my first year as a high school football coach. What an experience! I learned so much especially since I was a defensive coach and had never played defense in my life. So it was a whole new perspective of the game. It was also different to coach instead of play. By no means did it totally satisfy that football fix that I got from playing, but it did help me to express my competitive nature in a good setting. It was definitely a great experience. However, coaching football demanded a lot of time. Especially since I was coaching at the freshman, junior varsity, and varsity level. That meant 3 games a week and practice on the days in between. It was too much. In fact it was so much time that it was taking away from things that I truly treasured. Yes it's hard to step away from this position, but if it allows me to be with those I love more, it's an easy decision.
Life presents many opportunities. God gives us chances to make choices about things we say, jobs we accept, moves we make, etc... I don't think He necessarily offers all things so that we can say yes. I believe He makes us take a look at the opportunity, pray about it, get counsel from others, and then make the decision. God tests us through these opportunities. The process that we go through to make our decision is of the highest importance. When making decisions I have heard there are a few things that God gives us to make the right choice 1. Prayer 2. His Word (Bible) 3.Holy Spirit (same call this our conscience) 4.Circumstances 5. Counsel and advice from others
Through these, how is God moving you towards making your decisions? Are you in constant communication with the one who knows the best choice for you? Are you seeking direction through daily reading of the Bible? Is the Holy Spirit nudging you to do something different than what your brain is telling you? What circumstances have occured? Is the timing right? Has something happened that would not normally occur? Who is the source of your advice? Are they adequate for helping you in this situation? Have you sought out others who have made a similar decision?
So much to think about. I know it's all been running through my mind recently in everything that's been going on in my life. Pray that I make good decisions that reflect God in my life.

You are making good decisions. Just don't be in too big a hurry to make them.
