I discovered another answer to why we pray in a book entitled Too Busy Not To Pray by Bill Hybels. Here's what he had to say
"Prayer is a way to maintain constant communion with God the Father and God the Son through God the Holy Spirit. It is the means of living out the intense relationship Jesus described in John 15:5-8. (I am the vine, you are the branches...If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you...) Prayer and God's presence are two sides of the same coin. Awareness of God's presence comes as the result of taking time to speak and listen to him through prayer; conversely, the power of prayer is unleashed in the lives of those who spend time in God's presence."
