What Prayer Is

I'm going to go ahead and respond to the comment made about prayer. The first question asked was, "Why do you all pray?" I'm assuming that the question is directed towards Christians. As a Christian, one of my goals is to grow closer to God in an effort to know Him better so that I can understand what He wants out of my life. When we want to grow closer to someone we spend time with them and converse with them to find out more about them. This is why I pray. I want to spend time with God and converse with Him so I can know Him better. The better I know Him, the better I can understand what He wants for my life. The thing about prayer is that it's not just about talking, it's also about listening. If I ask you a question I am then silent so I can hear your response. We have to do this with prayer as well. However, this answer may come through another person, Scripture, the whispering of the Holy Spirit, or even circumstances. The more I pray, the better I know God, and the better I can recognize His answers. This is not the only reason Christians pray, but I think it is an important part of it. I'll go ahead and answer the 2nd question (What do you pray for?) in my next post. Any thoughts on this post?
