What Makes Me A Man

Just started reading a book entitled Wild at Heart by John Eldredge. Eldredge discusses in one chapter the largest fear that men have; "to be found out, to be discovered as an imposter, and not really a man." Then he quotes an essay by Garrison Keillor where Keillor made a list of useful things he can do and useful things he cannot do.

So here's a few useful things I can NOT do...

Move cattle

Weld

Work on an engine

Build a house

Drink a gallon of milk in under 1 hour

Field dress a deer

Fix a computer (that's why I have friends)

Drive a combine

Some useful things I CAN do...

Change oil / brake pads / other minor auto stuff

Build an entertainment center

Play guitar and sing (sort of)

Play sports

Make nachos

Organize and prioritize

Fix minor household problems

Drive a stick

Shoot a gun (didn't say hit anything)

Create a floor plan for a house

And a few useful things I've never tried to do...

Win a fight

Eat 75 shrimp at Red Lobster on all you can eat shrimp night

Play rugby

Learn Hebrew

Catch a chicken

let me tell you Todd, it's not really hard to field dress a deer. come with me saturday morning, you can field dress mine for me! also, don't get in a big hurry to eat 75 shrimp, it's not as fun as it sounds... at least not while you're doing it. i wish i could play a guitar, and you do make some mean nachos. macho nachos.

i don't know Todd...there's some pretty vital things on that list that you don't know how to do... i mean sometime in your life you're definitely going to have to drink a gallon of milk in an hour! better start practicing now!

You're right, Todd, it is physically impossible to do, but if you are REALLY interested in some of the other things you can always come learn from my dad. lol!

just wanna say i appreciate the "brothers" that are out there winning the battles and becoming real men.

blessings!

I'm not sure how useful it is, but you do make some pretty good faces to entertain the family.

Real men don't have to do anything. That's what their wives are for. UGH!

Its not about what you can't do, its about making the things you can do seem very important and without you there, those things wouldn't get done. Then you can just say that the things you can't do are impossible unless your a trained professional.
