Jewish Wedding - Bride & Bridegroom
When God created marriage, He knew that He was preparing for the most magnificent marriage of all, namely that of Jesus and the Church. Matthew 9:14-15 says, "Then John’s disciples came and asked him, ‘How is it that we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?’ Jesus answered, ‘How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them; then they will fast.’” Jesus refers to himself as the bridegroom here. He is the Son of God who is to be joined with his bride who has not only been selected by God, but created by God. We see who the bride is in Ephesians 5:22-23. “Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the Church, his body, of which he is Savior.” I'll move on to the first step of betrothal in my next post.
