For our last 3 Sunday School classes of August we will be focusing on the metaphorical analogy of Jesus as the Bridegroom and the Church as the Bride. I'll post a few of these analogies over the next week or so.
1st, take a simple look at marriage. God invented marriage. He knew that it would be good for a man and woman to be together and share their lives as one flesh. (Genesis 2:18, 24) He initiated the first marriage between Adam and Eve when He created Eve knowing that they would need eachother. This unique relationship between a man and a woman is hard to describe and is compared to the profound mystery of the relationship between the Church and Jesus. (Ephesians 5:32) It is difficult to fully understand this, however with a better idea of the Jewish wedding tradition at that time in history, we can begin to see the implications of this analogy. I'll take an individual look at the Bride and the Bridegroom in my next post.
